It was under 30 grams. What happens to first offenders in Illinois for marijuana someone who has never been in trouble before for anything

Under 30 is a misdemeanor. If she did not have the $100 to post for the $1000 bail they gave her and "I" bond.
If she did post the $100 then she can get a lawyer right when she goes to court from the bar association who will handle it for the bond.
What the lawyer will do is challenge the search or arrest to get the case thrown out.
If she cannot get the case dumped they will offer conditional discharge, she has to go to drug school and if she completes it well the case is dumped.
If she tries to claim she is innocent and does not get the case dumped she gets convicted, she gets no time, just probation but she now has a criminal record.

If you have a lawyer who is not a criminal attorney do not use him. You must use a criminal attorney familiar with Cook County courts. Like I said the bar attorney will be just fine but you can hire one ahead of time if you need assurance.

Her attorney should be able to give her the best and most reliable advice. If she is not currently represented by legal counsel, she needs to get a lawyer!
